| ...On the day they first met in Mystic, CT; Jim and Kate went to each of their homes to show each other their art. Then in 1999, Jim closed his Westerly, RI photography studio. They both quit their jobs, and followed some friends who had moved to Brevard County previously. These same friends married Jim & Kate on their boat in the Banana River. After many winters in the Midwest and New England; the warmth and beauty of Florida’s coast seduced them, and they stayed.
Cardinal Snow ...Jim & Kate’s first collaboration was a whimsical Christmas card sent to family and friends that first holiday season in the Sunshine State. Over time the mailing list grew to where they had to send the cards out to be printed! Many recipients collect and save them, year after year.
Ponder ... Brush & Shutter Studio was Jim’s idea as an outlet for Jim’s photography and Kate’s painting in addition to all their other creative works. Jim & Kate confer on everything! Kate is the “Brush”; and Jim is the “Shutter”.

“Brush”
Yester year ...Kate has been drawing, painting, and doing all manner of craft work as long as she can remember. As a self-taught artist, she sold her first painting in the late 70’s. Later she was commissioned by business and individual customers for her graphite drawings and portraits. As a volunteer, Kate painted many of the tiny model buildings and boats in the Scale Model Diorama at Mystic Seaport, in Mystic, CT.
Blue-eyed Cat ...In Florida, Kate taught pencil and drawing techniques at the Space Coast Cancer Center in Titusville for the “Day of Art Therapy” events, and has been invited to return for future events.
Suki ...Kate focuses on tiny details, painstakingly painting or drawing every wrinkle of a flower petal, every hair in a cat’s fur. This defining characteristic brings an appeal to her pieces whether you view them from across the room, or under a magnifying glass!

... Jim loves photography and computers. After obtaining his first camera in 1972, Jim went to numerous workshops and classes, seeking out instruction and training from many noteworthy photographers, including Robin Perry and the internationally renowned Don Blair.
Cocoa Boardwalk .. Later Jim taught photography out of his studio, sharing his passion with others. He was the personal photographer of “Mrs. Connecticut”1992.
A Day at the Beach ...His photography/videography studio was a success for over fifteen years. Jim had photographed thousands of weddings all over the U.S. by the time he moved to Florida and retired from the “Wedding Photography” business.
Cocoa Park ...His photographs have appeared in numerous galleries in CT. and FL.; and Jim’s photographs have been published in numerous publications, including (but not limited to): “The Westerly Sun”, “The New London Day”, and “Oceans Magazine.
Flamingos ...Recalling all the long hours he spent in a dark room; He is delighted with the advancements that have been made in ways to improve and enhance photos with computer graphics. Jim works almost exclusively in digital format, and will often merge multiple techniques and images into a finished product that many have declared “Looks better than real life!”. Jim is a member of the Brevard Camera Club.
