Fine Pencil Artistry

Family Baby
|
Born in rural Illinois, and presently
residing in Merritt Island, Florida, I have recently pursued pencil
art as my newest art medium. I’ve always wanted to be an artist.
I have always been more comfortable with a pencil or pen in my hand.
In November, 2006, I decided to “jump in” by taking a drawing
class.
My subject matter is life around me, combining reality often with a twist of whimsy. I delight in finding the hidden among the obvious as much of my work portrays.
the Locket I most enjoy portrait commissions from photographs, especially photos of children. The blank page presents a most welcomed challenge! "Where do I begin?" is oftentimes the greatest adventure in capturing a portrait, transforming favorite objects into a masterpiece of art, or preserving a family memory. Each drawing I do is drawn and shaded ONLY with pencil......no smudging with fingers or stumps or chamois. The variety of hardness or softness of the graphite lends itself to the various shadings from light to dark. Getting the right combination allows the work to stand alone as a masterpiece of fine pencil art.
Derreck I have spent many years teaching in various positions from Education Director at a local church to teaching art and Biblical truth to at-risk children for four years in Brevard County. I am also a calligrapher, and have taught adult classes in calligraphy in the area as well. I offer drawing classes at Art and Antique Studio in Historic Eau Gallie, Melbourne, Florida. I also teach drawing class through Central Brevard Art Association. I bring to the table my God-gifted talent and the encouragement of friends, topped off by the support of my wonderful husband and two children, as I celebrate life through my fine pencil artistry. |
